Kensington Slimblade Trackball Mouse

This is a great alternative to your standard mouse and can significantly help you reduce repetitive stress trauma and injuries. The slim, low-profile, ambidextrous design provides all-day comfort while the advanced dual laser sensors and large ball deliver exceptional precision. For even greater productivity, the four programmable buttons can be set to the functions or keyboard shortcuts you use most with our TrackballWorks software.

USB Foot Mouse

This is one of the first things that I recommend to anyone that is a heavy computer user or keyboarder. It is a USB Foot Mouse, it lets you tap your foot to left-click and right-click (or any keyboard action or key combination) instead of your finger(s). It has been a life changer for myself and several of my clients.

The one I purchased, The Kinesis Savant Elite Programmable Foot Switch (Amazon), seems to be a bit on the expensive side at around $125 but I have had it for over 5 years and it is still going strong.

Evoluent Mouse

Since we are talking mice, this is the one I use when I am working at my desk top, even when I am using a foot mouse to click since you  have to move the cursor with your hand. It helps you avoid twisting your forearm and it supports your hand in an upright neutral posture, kid of like Lomi Massage. The bottom line for me is that it helps minimize my wrist pain. Amazon.com Link

Smart Nav

Admittedly, this is somewhat of a radical solution, but there was a time in my life that I allowed my body to get so unhealthy, just from working too much at a computer and neglecting the basics, that I needed this radical solution...and it really helped me.

The Smart Nav is a completely hands-free mouse that is used extensively by people with ALS, spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, and overworked software developers, executives, etc.  www.naturalpoint.com

And if gaming is your vice, you have to look at the Trackir!

AutoHotKey
AutoHotKey is a fast scriptable keyboard macro and automation program. Anything that you type over and over can be automated. You can type an entire sentence or paragraph with just a couple of keys. Store it in your DropBox (or equivalent) and you can have the same script on any of your computers. This saves me thousands of key strokes every week!   www.AutoHotKey.com

Is Sitting Killing Us?

OK, so sitting is officially the new smoking, or at least the new stabbing yourself in the eye with a pen for no reason, or....I could go on and on. I have listed some solutions below and here are some popular articles that you can look at to see how serious the problem might be.

The Varidesk Approach
I love this new approach to the adjustable sitting and standing desk. It is very affordable ($300 compared to $1,000+) and it is even somewhat portable so you could use it at work and at home, etc. They even have multiple monitor setups. If you spend the majority of your life at a computer you really need to take a look at this, it truly can change your life. www.varidesk.com

The Ninja Standing (and Sitiing) Desk

This is a brilliant and affordale (about $150) way to disrupt the debilitating routine of sitting at your desk all day while your body tries to curl in a ball and stay that way...Forever!

The Ninja Standing Desk hangs from a door, wall, or cubicle and is available in 2- and 3-shelf models. It can hold a laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse combination as preferred. By adding a third shelf it can also be used as a sitting desk by simply moving the laptop and keyboard down one shelf, and pulling a chair up to the desk. The desk is adjustable to any height and tilt angle; it folds up into a compact package for easy transport, and is sturdy enough for everyday use!    www.ninjastandingdesk.com
